Okay, so in my adult life, I have only gone to three weddings (is that a normal number?). And of those three, only one was a person I truly cared about, and I was a bridesmaid, so I didn’t get too much say in what I wore. However, I have decided that as I turn 30 this year (!!), I am probably going to be going to more of these. When I got married, everyone was so sweet to try and not upstage me, or dress in my colors if they weren’t part of the wedding party. So we’ll look at some choices for that. But I will say, sometimes you are obligated to go to a wedding where you really don’t care, or you are trying to be a good sport, and you want to blow everyone away with how good you look. And we have options for that too!
Friend of the couple (or one half) but not in the wedding party:
Wearing white, even mixed with black, is supposed to be strictly verboten. However, if the bride is not a bridezilla, most will let you get away with it. And this is so sweet and simple. Very elegant!
For the wedding you really didn’t want to go to (for whatever reason):
Don’t be afraid to stand out a little! This is conservative and sweet, but red can a declaration of war against white, so only use this color if you are prepared for battle with the bride (or more likely, the mother of the bride).
What Korin would wear:
Need I say more???
The non-vengeful ex-girlfriend of the groom:
If you were lucky enough to get past the bride onto the guest list, do not make her regret it. This is a dress sure to get you noticed, and have everyone talking about you, but it is in no way skanky or slutty. You need to be brave to wear this one, but it will be soooo worth it!
The perfect sister:
Maybe not is shape, but in color, it definitely pulls a Pippa! You can’t look away from this color, and it is so splashy, but no one could ever say that it was not tasteful.
For your bosses’ wedding (or for the wedding of anyone related to your boss):
In a situation where looks are going to count for huge points in other aspects of your life (i.e. your profession), this is the go-to dress – very conservative, but the cut is so sexy. You will look and feel great, you will only stand out if you want to, and your boss will appreciate your appropriateness. And trust me, at this price, you won’t ever regret this dress. You can wear it for years to come!!
I had some great evening-gown like dresses for fancier affairs, but I can’t get Bluefly to let me copy the pics. Just trust me, they have some great choices at awesome prices!
