Where the *beep* did August come from?! How did it get here so frickin’ fast????!!! I could have sworn that LAST WEEK was New Year’s Eve. These days seem like they are getting faster and faster, don’t they?
Well, for the month of August I’m placing myself on a 31 days challenge for a number of different reasons. This challenge will be part of my mind, body, and soul motif for this year.
Well, there have been a number of things just not working for me. I haven’t been running as much due to work and my growing photography business. Also, my eating habits haven’t been on par. I have found myself indulging multiple times a week on those delicious Famous Amos cookies and spending more money than I care to admit at restaurants. Since I am so busy I have been cooking less. Simply because I just haven’t made the time. Also, I have noticed more and more hair loss and I need to identify why. I may be experiencing traction alopecia because I have been pinning my hair up. However, that’s for another post…
Last night I went to Sprouts and they were having a 25% off all health care, vitamins, and supplements so I cleaned up. Here is what I decided to purchase:
B12: 60 pills to help increase energy and focus. I just feel so sluggish and tired in the morning which makes me feel not as efficient. I want to see if I feel a difference in mood after 31 days of taking these pills. I purchased the pill that dissolves under your tongue because it enters the blood stream faster. As a note I plan on only taking one pill a day.
Hair, Nail, & Skin Supplements: My nails have always been super pretty but they can get brittle after they grow to a certain length. My hair seems to be not a shiny anymore either. I have always has great skin, but even great can be improved. I will take these pills at night before I go to bed to see if they get absorbed better in the body.
Leafy Green Supplements: For the most part I would say that I do eat healthy. However, the one food I just despise are leafy greens. I love tomatoes, every type of squash, kale, carrots, cilantro, onions, cauliflower…. Shoot… almost every veggie in the book but freakin’ leafy greens. I just feel like I’m not getting a lot out of it. However, leafy greens are super important to the digestive system. Whenever I have a tummy ache I usually eat a mango or a salad. Both work great. I think part of my hair loss may be attributed to not eating enough leafy greens. I did some research and decided to purchase a leafy green food supplement. With these powders that you place them in 8 ounces of water and drink about 30-45 minutes after your meanl. They are supposed to work pretty effectively. I purchased two different brands. One is a berry flavor and the other is just greens. When speaking to the sales associate at Sprouts he informed me that the straight green one is the best on the market, but it taste the grossest. I will review both products when I’m done to give my opinion about it. I also purchased a number of one off packets as well to see if I would like them.
Hair: My hair has been getting super tangled recently and I have had a lot of hair loose. My guess is it has to do with the fact I wear my hair up a lot and it stresses out the follicles. Therefore I’m going to attempt to not wear my hair in a ponytail all month and engage in the magic of bobby pins. I also plan to take better care of moisturizing my hair and pinning it up at night. I also made an appoitment for this Saturday at a natural hair care salon for a good wash and cut. Again, I will go in more detail about my hair in an upcoming post.
Fitness: I plan on running EVERYDAY for the next month… or at the very least walking at least 2 miles a day. I also signed up for a _____ class through Groupon. I wanted to sign up for some Crossfit classes, but I haven’t found any that appeal to me in Dallas. I will try and wait that one out. Crossfit interest me because it’s more like athletic training.
Not once ounce of junkfood is allowed… except for today because I already made plans with friends to check out Cedar Social in Dallas. I’m sorry… if I go to a sit down dinner I’m having wine.
If you know me I have obsessing over redecorating my place. In fact I’m in the middle of a desk refurbishing that I hope to get done by this weekend. For the month of August Apartment Therapy is hosting a 30 day redecorating cleanse so if you’re interested check it out here. Getting my place redecorated will help me to become more at ease at home.
Fashion: I am well aware that I haven’t posted a lot of OOTD but that is because (a) I have been so busy, (b) since I haven’t been working out too much I don’t like how untoned my body has looked in pictures, and (c) my waistline has grown cuz all those dayum Famous Amos cookies. Nonetheless that shouldn’t be an excuse so my plan is to showcase a new outfit EVERYDAY for a month.
I also need to figure out the work- life,-and personal business balance. I have no idea how I am going to conquer this one. I will have to let you guys know of the game plan I come up with. I just don’t have a minute of my day were I can relax long enough to even think about it. However, this Saturday may be a good day to be alone figure things out.
I feel like I have calmed down a lot this year. I feel more relaxed and WAY happier than last year, but that’s because I have found a wonderful position which doesn’t stress me out. I’m also surrounded by a great friend and family base. However, I want to do more for my community and the people around me.
Honestly I REALLY love to volunteer my time… but time is a luxury I don’t have to give out. However, informing the world about great and interesting causes and initiatives is something I can do easily on my website. What I plan on doing is having a section called “Help a brother/sister’ out”… (it’s a working title)… where I will highlight someone who is doing something great or cool for the world or community and how you can help them out. Just this week I told you guys about a friend from high school who needs money for a surgery that will help her keep her arm after battling bone cancer (check it out HERE ). I also told you guys about Woncho (sounds like Poncho) who currently has a Kickstarter campaign out to film a web documentary about hitchhiking. I think this sounds like an AWESOME project… and, as of this post, he only needs $650 more dollars to reach his goal! He has six days left so I am rooting for him. So if you like to learn more about this project click (HERE!).
Wow! This was a word heavy post! LOL! I know I typically have a lot of picture heavy post so this good. This will be a good project for me and it seems that you guys will get a lot of days were I will post twice a day. I will try not to do that too often because I know multiple posts can be overwhelming. So I hope you guys join me on this journey. In fact it would be cool if someone also did the 31 days fitness/eating challenge with me!
Here’s to August! Cheers!
