“No Matter Where You’re from Your Dreams are Valid”

Lupita Nyongo’s acceptance speech for her portrayal of Patsy from Twelve Years a Slave was beyond beautiful and brought me to tears.  Lets be honest, there was no actress this year that could touch Lupita’s performance.  Her first movie ever and girl came out with a vengence.  She brought tears to my eyes because it’s so rare to see such genuine and eagerness in people these days, especially in Hollywood.  I  love the fact this beautiful woman  won and how beautiful and graceful her words were that have pierced the world.  She made a statement anyone can hold true.  That our dreams are valid.

Thank You Lupita for your grace, beautiful, and presence.

You are truly a Queen.

Nelson Mandela

It always seems impossible until it’s done.  -Nelson Mandela

This is one of my most favorite quotes.  It’s something that I live by.  When people tell me my ambitions are too high I know that I’m doing something right.

Have a great weekend y’all!

Recently, a co-worker has started to be just a little annoying regarding my wardrobe choices. I work in a state agency law office, so I have to be a little conservative, but, because we work for the state, I am not required to don the horrid pinstripes that I would in a traditional law office. However, I do tend towards black clothes. Now, this is not because I am worried about how skinny and/or large I look, nor is it because I have no clothing imagination. It is because black is 1) easy, and 2) a great canvas for my accessories, namely my shoes. I have always loved the fact that on those mornings when I am running late, and it is everything I can do to drag myself out of bed, I can pull on a pair of wide-leg black pants, a black t-shirt, red and black snakeskin pumps, a simple black watch and a beautiful blue necklace, and not only am I fully and appropriately dressed, but I am also fashionable. I could wear (and have worn) the same exact outfit the next day with different shoes and jewelry, and no one has ever commented on it. And trust me, in my office, everyone is a critic.

When I tried to explain to my nosy coworker that not everyone could wear colors with the same abandon that she does, she very quickly got defensive and started to explain the error of my thoughts. This was soooo much like a former coworker who was MAYBE 100 pounds soaking wet and all of 5’2″, who once explained to me that absolutely everyone in the world could be as skinny as her if they just watched what they ate. When I explained to her that my wrist was not fat, and yet it was at least half again as large as her wrist, she explained that I wasn’t working out correctly. I have learned that with these people, it is better to just walk away from the conversation. There is nothing that you will EVER say or do that will convince them that they are not correct.

Let me also say – I do wear color. I have a lovely blue t-shirt that I got about 6 weeks ago that I wear constantly. It is a very rich blue with birds flying around with piano keys. I also have a lovely deep purple sweater with 3/4 sleeves that I rock all through the fall. I have shoes from every color of the rainbow. But why am I defending myself?? Even if I just wanted to wear black all day, every day for the rest of my life, it would be okay. Some people will never feel happy unless they can criticize you and then hide by saying that they are “just being honest.” Well, honestly, I don’t give a hoot (most of the time) for other people’s opinions, and neither should you. Fashion and beauty are such an incredibly personal thing, that no one’s opinion should ever sway you to change something about your look. More often that not, when someone lashes out at you, or says something mean-spirited, it is because they themselves are unhappy, and they are hoping that by making you sadder than they are, they will suddenly feel better. Anyone think that will work? Me neither. So I am going to continue to luxuriate in my black-filled closet. After all, if it was good enough for Audrey (and for the movie that most women think of as the “fashion movie,”) it is more than good enough for me!! ***

OMG!! I downloaded this app to help motivate me to run, and it is the ever-loving bomb!!!!

I don’t have a man in my life right now, but I hope the next one to come along already knows about this and follows it. That would be so Don Draper of him!

This shirt is on its way to me now. What a great message, right?

I LOVE the bathing suit and the shoes.

This has been my anthem for the past few days.

This is the greatest smelling candle in the world. Other than my mint one.

More steps to help me with my running.

If I ever have to live in a smaller apartment for some reason, I am so doing this.

Too true.

I love the bohemian quality of this wedding dress. Next time!!!

My new favorite fashion blog.

It is peach season here in Texas, so I need to find out what to do with this bounty.

I apologize if I have already posted this, but this is the coolest roommate post EVER.

Pepsi is never okay.

Thirsty Thursdays are going to be a thing for me, I can tell.

Yes, I will eat this, thanks!

I’m not going full vegetarian, but I am going to try cutting out chicken, beef and sausage for a while. This will be very helpful.

**I would just like to point something out too. Anyone ever notice how the not-so-nice sugar mama in the Breakfast at Tiffany’s is always drenched in color compared to Holly?? I don’t think that was an accident.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.

As you all know, I hate getting too personal on this blog. S and I like to keep our personal life… well personal. Of course we will call each other and talk about current events in our life, but we aren’t going to place them on the blog. I want this to be a drama free zone that you guys can come here after a long day read, relax, and have fun with our personalities.

I do want you guys to know that in this life, especially if you are in a first world country, you do have the ability to change the direction on how you are leading your existence. If you want more, do more. Don’t take your eyes off the goal. Don’t become distract with naysayers and haters. I have learned that the only people who don’t want you to do well are people who are jealous of your ambition and ability.

If you’re not happy with something in your life change it. Like Steve Jobs said, ‘When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.’ It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

I want everyone who comes across this post to really read, analyze, and understand that quote. If you’re not happy, change your position. There is no reason not to be happy in ALL aspects of your life. Some people may say to themselves… I have been doing this for so long… I don’t know anything else.  No people… that’s called complacency and you have just convinced yourself that you have no ambition to strive for anything better. If you have a goal you CAN achieve it. The only person placing obstacles in front of you is yourself.

Remember, the mind and the soul of the body is a flowing river… even if there is a rock in the way water always finds a way around.

If you REALLY want to achieve something, you will find away to get what you need.

I’m looking for happiness is EVERY aspect of my life.

Happy Friday

PS: Isn’t that picture so cute?! I personal don’t have any haters in my life (if I do I can’t see them since I’m so high up). However, if you do then you guys need to never mind them and strut like that kitten, because trust… HATERS ARE ALWAYS JUST GON’ TO HATE!

PSS: I’m missing working today to see if I have CTS (Carpel Tunnel Syndrome)… Lets pray that I don’t.

So how was everyone’s weekend? Mine was eventful, to say the least. I found out Saturday that Nicole passed away. It really hurts to hear that someone you know passed away from something they had no control over. She was only 29 for 10 days.

We all have to count our blessings. We have to remember that never to waste the day because it’s a gift, that’s why they call it the present.
